Always have Healthy Foods on Hand

If the bag of chips or bottle of soda is not there, you are more likely to reach for a snack from the fruit basket or for water. Eat more fruits and vegetables and reduce salty foods to lower your chances of getting heart disease.

Eat Breakfast

Ensure you have a substantial breakfast. Eating a good breakfast will help your blood sugar levels stay close to normal and it helps to control your weight.

Have Some Green Tea

Replace some of your tea or coffee with green tea. It is rich in substances that slow down aging and helps prevent prostate cancer. Green tea also helps with weight loss.

Eat Smaller Portions

The amount and type of food you need depends on the type of work you do. If you have an office job you need a smaller amount of starches such as rice and flour.

work out headerworkout pic

Exercise burns calories, helps lower your stress, prevents and controls your blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol.

You need 30 minutes of exercise each day. You can break into 10 minute segments. Do activities you love - cycling, swimming, jogging walking, playing a game or farming.

Have a Fitness Support Group

It is easy to find excuses not to exercise if you work out alone. Find a support group and you will motivate each other to work out.

Get More Physical Activity at Work

Park further away from your office entrance or get off the bus one bus stop earlier and walk the rest of the way to work.

Walk over to someone's desk rather than talk to them on the phone

Go on lunchtime walks

How much Sleep do you need?

The amount of sleep you need to function well may be different from another man who is the same age as you. On average healthy adults need seven to eight hours of sleep every night. Go to bed early.

What happens if you get too little sleep?

  • You are more likely to put on weight because your appetite increases when you do not get enough sleep.

  • Your chances of getting diabetes and heart problems is increased.

  • Your immune function is affected and you become more prone to diseases including cancer.

  • You may become depressed.

Every Jamaica Man should get their prostate checked beginning at age 40.

When you discover prostate cancer early and treat it immediately you are less likely to have problems with your sex life.

medication headermedication pic

Taking your medication for chronic illnesses, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, helps you stay healthy.

To help you remember to take your medication:

  • Use weekly labelled pill containers.

  • Set a reminder on your phone to take your medication.

  • Ask a friend or relative to remind you to take your medication.

  • Place reminder notes to yourself where you will see them.

  • Keep your medication where you will always see it.
